ARTIST'S STATEMENT

A Spirit of freedom marks the works of Lynette Leone Watkins, an artist highly successful in many media.

Having studied in both Europe and with some of America's most successful artists, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in music, an Associate of Science degree in Commercial Art, and a Master's degree in Art, Mrs. Watkins has earned merit in the professional art world as well as that of education. She is currently a professor of art at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas, and is constantly in demand as a guest lecturer and exhibitor in art and civic groups, conducting workshops in the Texas and New Mexico areas. Included as a lecturer last summer, Lynette is honored to be invited to return as a guest instructor in Italy at the La Romita School of Art in August 2002.

Lynette's paintings grace many private and public collections throughout the world.

Now specializing in mixed media paintings, often beginning with an experimental process, allowing the paint pigment to dictate the overall composition, Lynette uses close focus images of nature to express the conceptual and symbolic. Mrs. Watkins is at her best when combining the accidental with the tightly structured, and the experimental with the traditional in expressing exciting images dominated by spontaneous abstract forms and colors against which details are delicately etched in startling relief.

Lynette Watkins has rapidly won recognition and honors for her masterful paintings, has been included in "Outstanding Young Woman of America", "Outstanding Personalities of the Southwest", "Outstanding Teachers in America", "Who's Who in the World", "Who's Who in America", "Outstanding People of the 20th Century". "2000 Outstanding Artists and Designers of the 20th Century", and can be credited with numerous awards in juried art exhibits, including New York City, New York; Sarasota, Florida; San Diego California; "Best of Show" in Las Vegas, Nevada; Amarillo, Texas; and Lubbock, Texas.

Lynette's versatile and free-flowing style make her a marked and promising artist. One of her paintings can be seen in the Summer 1999 edition of Watercolor, and American Artist Publication, as well as in the November 1998 issue of Southwest Art.
